Storytelling
I’ve told stories all my life, and professionally since the 1980s, working with every age range in all manner of contexts, from small groups to festivals. I’m also a fully qualified and experienced teacher, trained in language teaching and English as a Second and Foreign Language, and I’ve taught nursery children, primary age children, secondary pupils, college and university students and adults. I’ve worked with children in special needs contexts, including substantial periods at Pupil Referral Units.
I’ve run many workshops for would-be storytellers, including workshops for the charities Kids Out and Storybook Dads in children’s hospices, women’s refuges, and prisons, as well as for centres such as Cortijo Romero in Spain and Atsitsa on the Greek island of Skyros.
I love to tell stories from my own heritage, and from Irish, Norse, Greek and Roman mythology, but I have also devised various techniques to enable audiences and individuals to create and co-create new stories.
